‘grote zaal’ in Tivoli Vredenburg

Tchaikovsky and Nielsen in Concert with Eureka

Dear HHP Students, I’m excited to announce that Eureka will organise a visit to the concert on the 20th of June! The Utrechtse Studenten Concert will play Tchaikovsky’s sixth symphony and Nielsen’s fifth symphony in the ‘grote zaal’ in Tivoli Vredenburg (Utrecht). If you’ve ever been curious about the world of classical music or are already familiar with the genre, it’s bound to be a great experience.

On the music we will be hearing, Tchaikovsky is of course one of the most famous musicians of the late nineteenth and early 20th centuries, composing such symphonies as swan lake and the nutcracker. His sixth Symphony concerns a battle with a deadly fate and is full of conflicting emotions and desires. Carl Nielsen lived in the same period and was the foremost composer of Denmark in his time, and really still it’s most important composer. His symphony is similarly filled with contrasts but innovates by breaking with traditional symphonic structures. So, despite their surface-level dissimilarities thematically they concur.

The concert will take place from (19:15 walk-in) 20:15 to 22:00, and the tickets will be completely free. We have a maximum of 15 tickets to distribute and the deadline is the 4th of June (Next week!), so sign-up quick!
