Ongehoord: new issue on Identity

Time has really flown by these past couple of months, and it is already time for our second Ongehoord issue of the year 2021-2022! It is wonderfully decorated with beautiful illustrations by our very own Lauren van der Spuy, and a lovely cover designed by another one of our own, Sabrina Botasheva. Our editorial board has worked hard on finalising this special identity-themed issue, with many fascinating articles for you to enjoy.

Firstly, we will kick off with an article written by one of our own editors: Alma Hunnik. She explored the gender identity of “robot influencer” Lil Miquela, for which we also recorded a podcast alongside another virtual identity-related topic researched by Jing. This podcast and another one, where we interview Jojo Eichler and Ester van Twillert about their research regarding gender in political speeches, will be linked later in this issue. This will be followed by an article written by Pepijn de Koning, who explored the role of female authors in the Middle Ages. After that, an article by myself will introduce you to the world of African American Vernacular English and its role in the book The Color Purple. Then, Tessa Karsten will explore a feminist reading of the Quran with us. Finally, we will round off this issue by diving back into the Middle Ages, in an article by our teacher Martine Veldhuizen and her co-writer Juliane Witte about the truth-telling identity of female saints.

Hopefully, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this brand new issue of Ongehoord!

You can find the new issue of Ongehoord on the bookshelves at the Eureka room, and on our website, www.ongehoordjournal.com.
